Bike race

13/03/15

Lily had her first race with the school cycling club yesterday afternoon, on Hackney Downs.

I went along to support them. Considering it was their first race, and a first for the school, they did really well!

Shacklewell were the last team to arrive, and the first event was the Year 5 Girls race, so Lily and her team-mates had to go straight onto the course for a warm-up lap. Then the race started straight afterwards.
The course was on the grass, winding down a slope and back up again. Not sure how long it was but I rode it after all the events had finished and it was a couple of minutes to get round, and pretty hard going on the bumpy grass.

Lily and the other girls were exhausted – Lily said it was “horrible”! But I think it was a great experience for her. I’m not sure what place she came (I didn’t see the ending because I was helping a girl who had crashed) but out of about 25 year 5 girls she came in around 8th – 12th.

Well done Lily & Team Shacklewell!
