Bike rides at dawn

09/08/12

In the last few weeks I’ve been getting up at 6am and jumping on my bike before my brain can protest too much.

I’ll cycle for about an hour on weekdays, two hours at weekend, ostensibly in preparation for a sponsored cycle I’m doing at the end of this month. But also it’s been a great opportunity to see new parts of Toronto and to get a sense of achievement before breakfast.

Here are a few photos from the days when I’ve remembered to take my camera.

  1. Hi Dan,

You’ve inspired me to start getting up at 6 now. It gives me about an hour of editing before getting ready for work. I can also do a longer ride in too. It’s better than my evening writing time (when I fit it in) because I don’t get distracted by Twitter and Facebook: I didn’t get up at 6 in the morning to go on Facebook.

    • Glad to hear it. Yeah working / playing / tinkering instead of sleeping has been a big problem for me for years.

If I had a piece of work to finish but got distracted for 15 minutes I’d think “that’s ok, I’ll just stay up another 15 minutes!”

      Suddenly it’s 3am and I need to get up at 7… bleugh…

But now I’m cycling every morning I’m actually tired at night! Staying up is no longer an option, which is great cause sleep is really quite good for you so they say.
