Last Canadian bike rides

24/06/13

The packers are here today boxing up our stuff prior to our return on the 11th, so we won’t see our stuff for at least 6 weeks. I think I’ll miss the bikes most of all – Harry just got the hang of riding his a week or so ago.

And I only just started using my Garmin bike computer the other weekend – I’m embedding my penultimate ride below because I won some (virtual) medals. Now normally I’d like to think I’m above this kind of manipulative gamification but I wish I’d known about these medals sooner..!

Lily skiis again

20/02/13

Lily & I returned to Blue Mountain at the weekend. Unfortunately she fell ill with a cold and fever so we didn’t get to ski as much as we intended. Here you can see that she’s perfected the technique of facing downhill and not stopping until she arrives at the bottom!

Radio star! Radio star!

08/12/12

Yesterday was a PA day so no school. The kids wanted to go to the Pinball Cafe in the afternoon but they were having so much fun playing under the dining table (which they’d turned into a cosy den with blankets and a picnic and everything…) that we didn’t make it out.

We were enjoying this show Mixtape Escape on CIUT 89.5 FM, a great community radio station I discovered a couple of days ago and when the DJ gave out her email address I had a brainwave for a nice surprise…

mp3 here

Thanks again Talia, you really made their day!

Go go mo!

01/12/12

Today I say goodbye to the unexpected visitor which has made its home under my nose in the last four weeks. It elicited both admiration and contempt, growing in prominence over the weeks despite my cack-handed attempts to govern it, and let it be know that, even in its short lifespan, it did some good!

Climb Lily, climb!

09/11/12

Caroline takes Harry to gymnastics on Sunday mornings, so Lily and me have been going climbing at Boulderz – their Sunday morning drop-in sessions started a few weeks ago.

They have an instructor around to belay but he’s quite in demand now it’s getting more popular. Last week though I passed their belaying test, so now I can belay Lily at least. And another dad from school has been going so we can belay each other too.

Lily of course has taken to it immediately and fearlessly!

Sandy damage

30/10/12

Hurricane Sandy caused quite a bit of chaos. It’s been raining almost constantly for the last few days, and last night two local trees were blown down…
